Will you take on the Doorstep Challenge?

What could you do-do on your doorstep for World Toilet Day on 19 November?

One the one hand, the answer to that question could be pretty much anything! But if you’re looking for some inspiration, here are our top three ideas:

Step challenge extreme

Get sponsored for a step fitness challenge! Use your front step (or your staircase if you prefer) for your own daily step challenge. Decide your target based on the number of days or steps you want to complete – then set up an online fundraising page and ask friends to sponsor you.

Look online for a guide to the Basic Step, or variations if you’d like to mix things up a bit! Please speak to your doctor before taking on any high-impact exercise if you have any health issues.

Poo emojis on the porch

Nothing says World Toilet Day like a poo emoji cupcake! Bake to order for neighbours and friends and invite donations to Toilet Twinning. Just think how excited they’ll be to receive a batch of poo emoji cakes on their porch! We’d recommend that you keep it simple by setting up an online giving page to receive donations.

Doorstep dash

Challenge a friend to a race to one another’s doorstep!

Agree a start time, then rush to the other person’s doorstep before they get to yours! The loser donates £5 to Toilet Twinning!

  • Post a pic on social media to prove you got there first with the hashtag #DoorstepChallenge.
  • Or post a ‘You’ve been pooped to the post!’ card through their door, with your time on it!

For extra fun (and fundraising!), if you see each other en route, you both donate £5! And the winner nominates a friend to keep the challenge going.

(Agree the rules beforehand eg permitted means of travel.)

Group challenge: Do-do detectives

Organise a scavenger or treasure hunt for your school class or uniformed group. Divide into small groups and hand out clues and/or riddles for places around your neighbourhood where they will find a poo emoji card. Each card has a word written on it. They have to visit all ten places and write down all ten words (eg: Two billion people worldwide do not have a proper toilet). The group who find all ten words, order them into a sentence and return to base in the fastest time are the winners.
