Approximately 75 per cent of Afghans are still in urgent need of clean water and basic sanitation.
The toilets are in a small rural area of Roshan in Shugnan District.
Who’s being helped
Nearly 3,000 families are benefiting from a water, sanitation and hygiene promotion programme being run by Tearfund’s partner in North East Afghanistan.
The partner, that cannot be named for security reasons, is working in the rural area of Roshan in Shugnan District.
In North East Afghanistan, communities have no safe accessible drinking water, and there is open defecation. This leads to a prevalence of water and sanitation-related diseases. The number of people dying from these preventable illnesses is one of the main catalystys for the water and sanitation work.
