On World Toilet Day - 19 November - the Northern Ireland Assembly twinned a toilet in Parliament Buildings, Stormont with a toilet in Burundi to help raise awareness of this life and death issue.

Jim Wells, MLA,  said: "Toilet Twinning is a unique way of supporting people for whom good, clean, safe sanitation is a luxury, not a given. Every minute, three children under the age of five die because of poor sanitation or dirty water. The Assembly is proud to support Toilet Twinning and the opportunity for people in Burundi to enjoy the benefits that improved sanitation will bring to their communities."
